(Teng)? who will become Penang next chief minister after Dr Koh becoming Gerakan Chief next year?

will UMNO or MCA want to grab that post also? Or maybe Opposition? Who know in 2008 GE, what will happen then.... so many things that against Rakyat is happening now.... maybe the history will happen again in Penang (1969 GE)?

But it seem like GE is coming soon.... so many "activities" going on now especially in Penang.

but what ever it is, i will continue vote for Rocket although they are not capable to capture Penang State. At least Check & Balance must be there. Currently only one Dap, one Pas and one Adil in State Assembly Hall, all from Seberang Prai. Island belong to BN. Too Bad, the only "api" from Batu Lanchang also lost last GE. Time to Change.... what Digi always say.....

Hiking From Teluk Bahang To Penang Hill

Any one interested to hike from Teluk Bahang Forest Park To Penang Hill? Look at this photos taken by some hiker, i remember during my Form 6 in PFS, we joined the hiking trip organised by PFS form 6 teachers. That trip is not the toughest one, average i will say, Trail 3 maybe according to Penang Forest Department. Kindly let me know if you are interested to join, to enjoy the beauty of Penang's nature, to escape from the pressure of working, so me can plan some day this year to hike from there to Penang Hill...

There are a total of five trails. They are all open to the public at no charge and each is planned according to different levels of difficulty. The four listed below all start from a common point and then divert onto different points within the forest reserve. Hikers need not worry about getting lost because the trails are marked with clear signs giving short explanations or story lines at 21 stops.

Level 1. Monkey-Cup Forest Trail
(Distance: 800 metres, Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours, 5 station stops)

This short and easy trail, suitable for all age groups, allows trekkers a glimpse of the flesh-eating plant known as the monkey cup or pitcher plant in English, or pokok periuk kera in Malay. Botanists describe the pitcher plant, which belongs to the Sarraceniaceae family, as having leaves modified into pitchers in which insects are trapped and digested by means of liquids secreted by the leaves. The plant is harmless however and some people in Sarawak even use the plant to cook rice in. Other uses of the pitcher plant are in the treatment of high blood pressure, diarrhoea, cough and fever.

Other trees along the trail are the nyatoh taban merah (the sap was once used as a colouring agent), the meranti melantai, keruing (its resin is used as a base for ointments, perfumes and paints), bertam, the calophyllum sp. (this plant holds a potential cure for AIDS, says the Forestry Dept) saga, kapur and rengas kerbau jalang (the tree produces an irritating black sap).

Level 2. Simpoh Gajah Trail
(1,240 metres, 2 to 2.5 hours, 7 station stops)

This trail is described as of average difficulty and is recommended for all ages. It is similar to Trail 1 but hikers pass through an area designated as virgin jungle reserve. This trail is named after the simpoh gajah, a tree whose stilt roots resemble the shape of an elephant's trunk. An interesting feature of this tree is the hissing sound it makes when its bark is cut. Trekkers get to see such a tree during the hike.

Level 3. Charcoal Kiln Trail
(2,980 metres, 3 to 4 hours, 10 station stops)

This trail is described as requiring some strenuous uphill walking and is recommended for physically fit trekkers. It takes you up to an altitude of 150m above sea level. Some of the plants hikers get to observe and learn about are the bayan, a species of palm which is used as food, the famous tongkat ali, gajah beranak, kacip fatimah, selaganilla, petai (a pungent pod), a big climber, commercially viable trees and a charcoal kiln built in the 50s.

The tongkat ali, also known as the local ginseng is taken as a health supplement, lowers high-blood pressure, and also serves as an aphrodisiac. Both gajah beranak and kacip fatimah are taken by women during post-natal recovery and for general good health. Petai is a popular ingredient in Malay and Nonya cooking. It can be eaten raw or cooked and is widely believed to have cleansing properties.

Level 4. Ridge Top Trail
(4,280 metres, 4 to 5 hours, 10 station stops)

This trail is categorised as demanding. This means that unless you are physically fit or have lots of stamina, you should not attempt this. Like Trail 3, this trail includes some steep hill climbing.described as requiring some strenuous uphill walking and is recommended for physically fit trekkers.

It follows Trail 3 until you pass the bayas palm, ascend upwards to 150 metres, then branch off eastward and ascend some more until you reach an altitude of 400m, or the ridge of the hill. You pass some pitcher plants before reaching an open area which overlooks a panoramic view of Telok Bahang. Then you head back towards the Forest Park via a buffalo logging trail.

Penang Hill Forest Challenge
(11.3 kilometres, 8 hours, 10 station stops
between Recreational Forest and Penang Hill) - Trail 5

This forest trail, called the Penang Hill Forest Challenge, is developed by the State Forestry Department. It starts at the Forest Park, winds through eight stops before reaching Bukit Laksmana and the permanent forest reserve. After reaching Western Hill, you continue your hike on a tarred jeep track until you reach the Upper Railway Station. From there you can use the jeep track to descend to the Botanical Gardens or Air Itam town (via Hye Keat). If you are too tired to walk down, you can always use the funicular railway. Apparently there are two ways of tackling this challenging trail. One is the tough version, which starts from the Forest Park and involves an uphill climb all the way. The other is the easier version, which starts from Western Hill and goes downhill until you reach the Forest Park. The distance between the Forest Park and the Penang Hill Top Station is approximately 11 kilometres.

Forest hikes are undeniably the best way of enjoying and appreciating natural wonders. Any number of people can participate and it doesn't cost very much. If you want to set up camp, it may be advisable to organise a team as heavy loads need to be carried over long distances. Don't forget to inform the friends/relatives before embarking.

Batu Ferringhi, Penang

I found this website of Batu Ferringhi, Penang, the place where i stay and live for the past 30 years, although nowworking in KL, but Penang still the best place for me to go back one day.... of course with my wife and son la...

Batu Ferringhi, used to be known as Tanjung Huma, the name that i discovered from my grandfather "citizenship certificate" from the then British Government. I always wonder what is the meaning of Ferringhi, which cannot be found in dictionary and by searching through website, Batu Ferringhi actually mean "Foreigner Rock". Ka Jin said Ferringhi is the word come from Denmark. Again, i have no idea.

More about "Old Penang" can be obtained through RAAF. The RAAF school on Penang Island functioned as a pre-school, primary and secondary school for dependants of Royal Australian Air Force personnel deployed at Butterworth from 1962 to 1988.

More news on Batu Ferringhi, Penang, click here.

Can you guys see my house...?

Pantai Keracut, Teluk Bahang

No more free entry to that beach, Pantai Keracut and Monkey Beach. The beach that we always camp there during secondary school, Form 6 and even during holiday after we went to local University.

The entrance to that beach start from End of The World seafood restaurant at Teluk Bahang. Walk along the sandy beach, then you come to a suspended bridge, after the bridge, is T junction, Left to Pantai Keracut, Right to another beach. Right after turn left, you need to "hike", up and down for at least 30 minutes. You will come across river, if you are thirsty, yes you can drink it. Then again the route to the beach up and down. Finally you will reach a lake, a special lake where top surface of the lake is fresh water, bottom part is saline water. They do not mix!!!! It is call meromictic lake.

Again and Again

Time to receive your letter and get ready to enter the University that you might have choosen. But again and again, until you son, daughter, anak, cucu la, still you will find that there are ethnic inequality when come to education. SAD DAY !!!

This problem is not new to everyone in this country, this is the saddest day for all Malaysian. No one even know how the heck the student is being selected, there are so many “unknown” criteria that set by the official. Everyone know that the entry Points for various courses is different for different races. This is the truth as once you enter the university, you will definitely know it. This might sensitive to certain people, but this is the truth in our “3rd class mentality” university education system.

Singapore is so concern of the talented student, and will try their best to tie them, even try to sponsor our student here and “settle” down there. But for Malaysian, it is not. They rather spend the money to compesate those crony stupid company than sponsor the talented student to continue thier “dreams”, and then service the country. Don’t blame the graduates for not coming back to Malaysia and service to the country. You deserve it, padan muka.

For those who fail to get a place in university, go and appeal, appeal to MCA la, they are your "hero", sure they will..... and don't forget to "vote" them you know......

If all this stupid thing is still happening, if every time you need to seek help from this "hero", until your 2020, you still will face this kind of problem...Oh, sorry, not you, your son, daughter, anak cucu cicik....... So, can you PLEASE VOTE OPPOSITION AH, CAN AH? Show your power.

This is a part of the Letter written by a saddest Student to YB LKS.

I just received my IPTA acceptance results today. With utmost disappointment, I fail to secure even a single place in any public university. This really means I am at a dead end as IPTA is the only mean of tertiary education as my family could not afford private degree.

I scored 3 A’s and 1 B for STPM, obtained Band 6 for MUET, participated actively in co-curriculum since junior secondary school. I also scored 9 1A’s and 1 3B in SPM with an 1A in GCE O Level. With these qualifications being considered in IPTA selection, I already fulfilled most of the requirements. Knowing the competition, I steered clear from my main options and settled for only dentistry and biomedicine at various places, including the less prestigous ones.

According to NST, today news:
PUTRAJAYA: Some 40,000 of the nation’s best and brightest students gained entry into public universities this year, but it is expected that a whopping 34,951 who failed in their bid will be making some noise in the days ahead.

I want to raise a question to Higher Education Ministry Director-General Datuk Dr Hassan: "Sure or not? Don't lie la Datuk...".

It is Venus !!!

Yes, Ka Jin is right, it is the planet VENUS.

According to The Star-Ledger
Venus has been in the morning sky for months now. Many have noticed it in the east just before dawn, though it has not been a particularly good appearance for the second planet. It has remained low in the sky, making it difficult to see.

Face east between 4:30 and 5 a.m. to see Venus in its role as the morning star. You'll need a clear view of the eastern horizon. It appears as an extremely bright star less than two fists off the horizon. It is in the constellation Aries, the ram. The brightest star in Aries is Hamal. If the sky is clear enough, you should be able to spot Hamal above and to the left of Venus.

THE SOLAR SYSTEM IN JUNE 2006 - Our five nearest planetary neighbors appear as points of light that shine steadily, unlike the bright night stars that twinkle. The four evening planets are Mercury, Mars and Saturn in the West and Jupiter in the East. In June, Mars moves from Gemini into Cancer, passing by Saturn on the evening of June 17th, when the two planets appear one moon width apart. The very bright planet Jupiter dominates the southeastern evening sky, shining brighter than any night star. The planet Mercury is best seen in mid June, then setting after 10 p.m. The planet Venus appears in the eastern dawn, rising nearly 2 hours ahead of the sun.

Alamak, Lau Sai

Aiyoh, tension already, Henn Henn already lau sai for few days. The diarrhea started last Friday, 5 times of stool that day. Then Saturday continue, now the stool is watery. Tension! Then Sunday early morning another 3 times, later went to see doctor at Serdang Perdana, have some powder stuff (Smecta) that added to milk powder and drink, adsorption of toxin, bacteria and viruses and reinforces the intestinal mucus barrier, changed milk powder temporary to Similac LF, lactose Free. Doctor said need about 4 days to cure. Monday, which is yesterday, still lau sai for 3 time. Today morning, already lau sai 3 time, but the final one seem more solid already. But still tension la... will consult doctor from GIMC, KL today by phone..... Poor Henn Henn, each time want to pang sai, he just like adult, perut sakit.....

Updated 07 June 2006:

After visit another doctor, he advised us not to use Smecta, it is not the best solution for diarrhea. Instead he ask us to use some kind of liquid stuff to help to "clean up" the intestine rather than stop the diarrhea, since Henn Henn is a baby.
